Wedding Shower

I had a really great weekend back in SC for my wedding shower. It was a luau theme and Ms. Barbara (mom's best friend) truly went all out. Sand castle cake, real live fish, waterfall, surfboards, palm trees...you name it and if it was tropical it was serving as decoration at my mom's house! My best girlfriends came from all over and I am so thankful for them! We drank and laughed and reminisced and found the wonder of the "hallway to nowhere." Big inside joke that my friends got to experience! My mom was so generous and I am forever grateful for her and Ms. Barbara! A wonderful time was had by all! I received some great gifts including a sign off the Etsy website from my sister! It was something I had been looking at and had wanted for our venue. It is white crackle finish that says "this way to Krystal and Zach's wedding" I love it!!! I'll take a picture and post it later. I also got a great "honeymoon" goody bag from Britt and plenty of wine and martini fun from Johanna, Janice and Anna! I knew I could count on my girls for the alcohol related gifts!!! We spent the end of the night sitting on the back porch, wine in hand, wrapped in blankets talking about our life over the last 4 years. We have all experienced so much and now are all about to embark on our newest adventure called residency. I love these girls and can't wait to grow closer as the years go on!

Definitely missed having Kendra there but we were able to Skype with her and in less than 5 weeks she will be here with Tobin! I can't wait to share my wedding day with her!! Love you sisther!!

I'll have pictures later...Ms. Barbara's daughter was nice enough to serve as "photographer" and took many wonderful pictures, I just dont' have them yet to download.

Getting my trial hair done tomorrow for the wedding! Super excited about that!!!

Birthday

I almost forgot! It's my great friend Britt's birthday!! Happy birthday darling! I'm so glad we have become friends over the last 4 years....here's to many more years through residency and beyond!!! Love ya girl!!!

Oh yeah...

I forgot to mention that I am officially done with medical school! My diploma will be issued on April 3rd and I'll head down to St. Maarten on May 29th for our graduation ceremony.

I've spent this week enjoying my time off and planning more of the wedding. Zach and I were finally able to meet to pick out the linens on Monday and tomorrow I am going to the venue for a walk through. I love being able to focus my full attention on the wedding and now our house hunt in Morgantown.

This weekend is my wedding shower in Fort Mill. My mom's great friend Barbara is putting it on for me and I couldn't be more grateful. I am so excited that some of my medical school friends are taking time out of their schedules to come celebrate. And wedding presents are starting to arrive at our apartment and Zach and I get so excited each night to open them up to see what is inside!! It is so fun and we are incredibly thankful for the generosity of of family and friends.

I also started a weight loss regimen....just really looking to get in shape and toned for the wedding. I've been doing pilates since January which I LOVE, but I bought Jillian Michels 30 day shred and it kicks my butt! I've done it 3 days in a row and I can tell a difference already! Zach did it last night and I was cracking up. He was in the living room in his boxers squatting and doing jumping jacks! Good thing we live on the 18th floor!!

NYC for the weekend!

I headed up there this weekend for my first dress fitting! Britt went with me Saturday morning and we had a great time! Still very much in love with my dress and can't wait to wear it in 8 weeks! I spent all weekend up there with her and Ryan and Mr. Harper...it was great and I can't believe how big the little squirt got! He's gonna be 1 on April 5th! He is the sweetest boy and Britt and Ry are such great parents!

We ate Korean bbq on Saturday night to celebrate Britt's birthday and then I headed back home Sunday morning. Zach and I took Mos to the park and came home to make Japanese food. It was an Asian food weekend for me....Zach makes the BEST Japanese food!!

Today we are finally going to pick our linens for the wedding and design our reception area. We have been trying to plan this since January so I'm excited that it is finally happening today!

This weekend is my wedding shower back in SC!!

And I'm not commenting on the Obamacare...ridiculous! The democrats are driving this country off a cliff and lying to the American public. As a future physician, this bill is incredibly scary! The government destroys everything it tries to control...the healthcare "reform" however will have such terrible, enormous repercussions....I fear for our future!

Country Roads Take Me Home...

We will officially be residents of Morgantown West Virginia starting in June!!! Zach and I are extremely excited to be starting on this journey. He didn't match into Neurosurgery so he will continue with general surgery but we are so grateful to be moving to such a great area together! Morgantown was rated as one of the top 10 best small communities to live in the US!!! Go Mountaineers!!!

Success!

WE MATCHED!!!! Don't know where yet (find out Thursday) but we officially have jobs starting in July for the next 5-7 years!!

The anxiety this morning was the worst I have ever felt and when my phone buzzed at 11:54 telling me I had a new email I almost lost it....

Subject of the email: Did I match?
Body: Congratulations! You have matched.

Talk about the most anti-climatic ending to something that has been terrifying! Something that you work all 4 years of medical school to achieve!

Oh well...it's over and now we wait until Thursday. Fingers crossed and prayers needed that Zach gets Neurosurgery!

Tomorrow it is...

It's finally here....Match week. Tomorrow around noon we find out if we matched and then Thursday we find out where....can't describe the anxiety right now!

With that being said, Zach and I had a nice weekend at home since he wasn't working. Friday night we actually went and saw Avatar. We went to the 10:15 showing and although it was really late...it was fantastic! Well worth the weight in my opinion. Saturday was rainy, rainy, rainy so we hung around the house playing Super Mario Brothers and napping! The best way to spend a rainy day! We did head out Saturday night to the Asian market and bought some Japanese food so that Zach can make it later this week....it's the best! Also couldn't resist a stop by Petsmart for Mos...he is the most spoiled dog! Not only did we buy him a new toy but we preceded to come home and sit on the couch and sew up all the old toys that he has put holes in!

Today we headed to Annapolis and spent the afternoon with Steve and Young and played more Mario Brothers with Hana, Cole and Bentley. Of note this morning, Zach and I finally succeeded in beating the game! After trying since Christmas we declared victory this morning!

Please send some love our way tomorrow and Thursday....I'll be sure to post tomorrow and let ya'll know the outcome....(insert hyperventilation here...)

So ready!

1 week from today we will know if we've matched or not!! AGH!!!

In 2 weeks I'll be done with school!!!

We had a nice weekend. Zach worked on Saturday so I had a lazy day at home. On Sunday we thought about going for a hike since the weather was gorgeous! But we settled on trying to see Avatar instead....big mistake! The theater was packed because of all the Alice in Wonderland folks. We had to wait in line for tickets and then wait in line to get into the theater. I decided to be brave and tackle the concession line....another mistake! It took me 45 minutes to get a popcorn and drink...I missed the first 20 minutes of the movie and I was not happy! I thought about getting out of line and just going back to the movie but it was one of those things where the longer you stand there the more you have invested and I REALLY wanted that popcorn for the 3 hour movie. So I finally get settled in next to Zach and 30 minutes later the screen goes black and the lights come on. An employee from the theater comes in and tells us we need to evacuate because there is a fire!!! What the heck?! So all 200 people in the theater truck outside and stand around for 30 minutes...I proceed to tell Zach that I'm not gonna stand out there all afternoon so we get raincheck tickets and hopefully will try again this weekend...geesh!

After the movie drama we came home and watched the Oscars. I love to watch the red carpet and see the dresses and I think Sandra Bullock looked amazing! The awards show is so long though and they give out so many awards that I don't care about, about films that I have never heard of!

2 weeks!

Sorry I have been slacking! I started my last med school rotation....hematology/oncology. It's for 3 weeks and I just finished week 1. Now I officially have 2 weeks of medical school left and 2 weeks until Match Day! Anxious, nervous, excited, amazed, happy...these are only a few of the emotions right now.

Heme/Onc has been a good rotation. I mostly work with an attending who deals with lymphomas and leukemias so it's cancer all day long which can be overwhelming. But I've learned in this short week how important compassion and empathy are in this profession...not that I didn't realize this before but it comes to a head when you are diagnosing and discussing cancer treatments everyday. I don't think this is something I could do for the rest of my life but I enjoyed this week and am looking forward to the next 2 weeks. The patients are great and I've learned so much already.

Nothing exciting planned this weekend. Poor Zach is on call Saturday. We are gonna try to have a date night tonight if he can get out of the hospital at a reasonable time. He REALLY wants to see Alice in Wonderland (which I have NO desire to see). Tim Burton movies are not my favorite and I know I won't like this movie but I promised Zach I would go....so we'll see. We still need to see Avatar and maybe I'll try to talk him into that instead since it's the premiere of Alice and Wonderland and the theater will probably be packed!

Scheduled my dress fitting for March 20th and then headed back to Charlotte on March 27th for a bridal shower!!!
