It's been a busy last couple of weeks....I finished Dermatology on Friday and actually learned a ton! Everyone should get mole checks once a year! Amazingly important as well as at least 30 SPF sunscreen. The amount of sun damage we saw was outstanding! I start Cardiology tomorrow for 4 weeks. Not really looking forward to this one...
Last weekend I flew down to Charleston for Danny's parents weekend. The weekend went by quickly but I had a great time talking to Dan and hanging out with mom and Steve and seeing some old friends. Here are Steve and I with Dan in his uniform.
.
And here is one of Danny's good friends before the game on Saturday.
Walking around the campus was great and hearing Danny's stories was hysterical. We spent over an hour at Zaxby's Saturday night while Dan told us stories of Hell Week and what his days are like everyday. There is no way I could go through what he has gone through but he is a different person because of it! He has grown up so much over the last 4 months and I am incredibly proud of him!!
This past week Zach had an interview at East Carolina that went very well. We would both love to be down south for residency, we'll just have to see what works out. I have my first interview this week in Albany, NY. Not quite the south but I'm excited for the experience.
We also got our engagement pictures done yesterday!! I am so excited about them and can't wait to see the proofs!! Our photographer is amazing and we had a great day.
Unfortunately Zach is on call today, since it is the first of the month he started a new rotation...Transplant surgery. Long dreaded by every resident at the University because of it's long hours, very sick patients and stressful workload. However, talking to him today he seems to be in his element. He loves working with really sick patients and transplant surgery has a huge element of adrenaline attached to it. For example, they have a 25 year old patient whose liver is failing for unknown reasons. Last night they listed this patient as Stage 1 on the transplant list meaning they would receive the first compatible liver that came up in this region (mainly the east coast) and sure enough Zach sent me a message that a liver came through and the plane was leaving at 6:30 to go pick it up in PA. Unfortunately Zach doesn't get to go on the pick ups but he does play a part in prepping the patient for surgery and being a part of the remarkable process. Needless to say he is loving the adrenaline! He says its definitely an option for him as a fellowship if Neurosurgery doesn't work out.
Just want to take a minute to say Happy Birthday to my dad!!! Thanks for all your love and support over the years!! It means so much to me!! I love you!!!
